Large Historic Victorian Beach House - The Sudden House | Casa en Ventura

Located in a unique part of town, part industrial/part beachy. Surrounded by a variety of restaurants, businesses and homes, and ocean views. Situated across from the footbridge for easy and convenient access to the beach and Ventura Pier. Also within walking distance to Main Street with restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, the weekly Farmers Market, the Fairgrounds and the Amtrak station. Once you arrive, you won't need to get in your car until your departure, the walkability is incredible!
This 3400 sq ft historic home (Landmark No 41) was built in 1886 and is a beautiful and unique part of Ventura’s history. It was moved to its current location in 1910. The home is located across from the railroad tracks so there will be noise as the train passes throughout the day. We find this to be a charming and fun part of our location, waving to the passengers as they travel to their destinations. The earliest train passes at 7:30am and the latest train passes at approximately 11:30pm. Each bedroom has individually wrapped earplugs for light sleepers.
There is a Mexican restaurant next door that is open primarily just on the weekend, and they often have live music which adds to a spirited and lively ambiance. On Friday and Saturday nights, the music ends no later than 10pm. They also offer a Sunday brunch which usually includes live music that does not start before 9am.
You will enjoy access to the entire home and outdoor space on the large property, including the front yard, two side yards and the back yard. There is a detached and separate back house that is currently vacant (no additional guests on the property) but not accessible during your stay.
Both living rooms have 75” TVs and each bedroom has a 55” TV available for your use of personal streaming services.
A Sonos sound system is available for your use. You can connect any device via Bluetooth.
The two bathrooms include towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash, as well as a blow dryer. All products are sulfate and paraben free. We also provide make-up towels that we ask be used instead of the white towels for the removal of make-up. Both showers include a shower mist to create an even more relaxing shower experience.
Each bedroom has a chest of drawers, a closet with hangers and luggage rack and a nightstand. Each nightstand includes a USB port for easy charging (with the large variety of different chargers for different devices, chargers are not provided).
The shades in the front windows of the front two bedrooms are black-out for those not so early risers, and each bedroom includes individually wrapped ear plugs for light sleepers. Each room also includes an essential oil aromatherapy spray made with lavender oil, bergamot oil and chamomile oil that can be spritzed on pillows, skin or anywhere that needs a little soothing.
The kitchen includes essentials such as pots and pans, baking sheets, mixing bowls, dishes, silverware, glasses, mugs, cooking utensils as well as an Instant-Pot, Air Fryer, Keurig and k-pods for coffee lovers/tea drinkers and a Vitamix for those who enjoy making smoothies or shakes. Included are basic cooking ingredients such as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, garlic powder, Lawry's seasoning salt, cooking spray, etc. Please bring all other items, including perishables, you'll need for your stay.
If you plan on cooking and are looking for some new recipes, a few of our favorite cookbooks are in the cabinet above the kitchen sink.
The house has a beautiful bar with glasses, bottle opener and a shaker (as well as a cocktail recipe book for some new ideas!). A complimentary bottle of wine is included with your stay.
Start your day with a cup of coffee in the rocking chairs on the front porch. The ocean view and people (and pet!) watching are a great way to start the day! Enjoy the beautiful Ventura evenings around the fire pit under string lights with an ocean view. A BBQ is available for those grill masters!
The house has central heating and a whole house fan but does not have central air conditioning (which generally isn't needed with the ocean breeze, ceiling fans and whole house fan!).
There is a washer and dryer available for use. As there are a variety of options and preferences for detergent (allergies, sensitive skin, etc.), laundry detergent is not provided. If you will have the need to do laundry, please bring your preferred detergent.
The Game Room includes an arcade cocktail table with 60 classic games such as Mrs Pac-Man, Galaga, Pong, Donkey Kong and many more, a shuffle board bank shot table, giant size connect four, poker table and board games. Fun for all ages!
We love and welcome pets (maximum of one dog and no cats). An additional non-refundable pet deposit will be required and ask that you please respect the house rules related to pets to keep our home enjoyable and well maintained for everybody.
